What rollers and compactors does Allways Hire offer?

We stock a range of compaction equipment including ride-on rollers, walk-behind plate compactors, and trench compactors. These cover everything from large-area subbase compaction to tight trench and pathway work.

What is the difference between a roller and a plate compactor?

A roller (ride-on or towed) uses its weight and vibration to compact large surfaces such as driveways, car parks, or road base layers. A plate compactor is a smaller, walk-behind machine better suited for compacting on smaller jobs or where access is tight.

When should I use a roller for my project?

A roller is ideal when you need to compact large areas of granular material or asphalt,for example: when laying a driveway base, compacting a building pad, or finishing a roading sub-base. For smaller or tighter areas, a plate compactor or rammer may be more suitable.

Do I need experience to operate a roller?

Ride-on rollers require basic plant operating competency. Our team will give you a machine handover when you collect the equipment. Always follow safe operating procedures and be aware of ground stability conditions.

How many passes does a roller need to properly compact material?

This depends on the material type, layer thickness, moisture content, and roller weight. As a general guide, 4–6 passes is typical for compacting granular fill in 150–200mm layers. Our team can advise based on your specific application.

Can I hire a roller for just a weekend?
