New hire equipment to our Hastings and Napier Hire YardsLearn More

Nigel Parkinson’s business is an efficient machine. From the point he started NDP Fencing and Earthworks in 2002, he had his eye on the growth opportunities in Hawke’s Bay. What started as a 1-man fencing operation is now a business that includes 5 fencing crews and a dedicated earthworks team. We spoke to him about the success of his company and how he’s used Allways Hire and their hire equipment to support his growth.

Check out the full video here:

“I’ve got some of my own gear as well but I tend to hire gear when it’s required to do a job rather than having gear sitting here in my yard that I potentially might use a week, a month…it’s not worth owning it. Allways Hire always has top quality gear on site.

Heavy-Machinery-For-Fencing-And-EarthworksNigel has built up his own fleet of equipment and supplements it with hires from Allways Hire.

The boys are really easy to talk to. You literally pick up the phone, tell them what you want. And between Hastings and Napier they always come up with a solution for you. And we can pick up the gear and multiple bits of gear and get them to a job site and get the job done. We’ve got our own transporter which makes it nice and easy, so, we can literally just ring the boys, come and get what we want, and get stuck into the job.”

Hiring equipment is a practical way to avoid dealing with the cost of machinery that’s not going to be used every day. Having his own transporter means that Nigel’s teams can quickly adapt to the needs of the job and get the right equipment to where it’s needed. But when it’s not needed – in between tasks – Nigel also appreciates Allways Hire’s flexibility and that – where possible – he does not have to pay for short amounts of downtime.

“We can tell them when we are and aren’t using machines and we can still leave them on site so when they’ve got downtime we’re not getting charged for the downtime which is fantastic. It saves you having to cart machines backwards and forwards to the branch two or three times a week – if it’s got to sit for a day they’re generally happy for us to do that and start charging when we use the machines again.”

Avoiding the cost of downtime is definitely one of the secrets to Nigel’s business success. It’s also another reason why he likes to hire his equipment from Allways Hire – because he can rely on it not to fail. And on the rare occasion that something does fail (and it’s been very rare over the past 10 years) he knows that the Allways Hire team will be there, quickly, to help him avoid the cost of wasted time.

“We had 4 machines in Pakowhai Road…we had a hose go on us…I gave them a ring and [they said] “don’t worry about it, we’ll come out” and they turned up with a new hose already set up, screwed it all into place, and attached it. And within 20 minutes we were up and running so basically no downtime. As I say – good service where required.”

Heavy-Machinery-Hire-For-FencingNigel’s business specialises in earthworks and fencing in Hawke’s Bay.

The way that Allways Hire are flexible to Nigel’s needs helps him to make his business more efficient. He values the fact that the Allways Hire team recognise the importance of his time. Keeping his team productive is an important factor in making a job cost-effective. Hiring newer machines reduces the risk of something going wrong – which can get expensive when you’ve got a team of 5 working on the job.

“Reliability and durability is huge to me. I’ve got teams on the ground and I can’t afford to have 3-5 guys standing around. If the machines aren’t working I’m not making money. It’s costing me money to have guys standing around waiting for gear to be repaired. [With] Allways Hire…you’re never really operating a machine that’s more than 2 or 3 years old…You can’t beat it really. “

As Nigel prefers the reliability of newer equipment, he also appreciates that Allways Hire have plenty of it. That means the machines he wants are always available for him to hire.

“The volume of gear across Napier and Hastings and Napier makes it quite simple to get what you want. In the 10 + years that I’ve been grabbing gear off Allways Hire there might be only 2 occasions that I can think of off the top of my head that I had to wait for a day or two for the gear to become available…Outstanding.

I’ve always used Allways Hire and have done for 10+ years. Allways Hire has got a bigger range of equipment – especially earthworks equipment – available…And they’re very price competitive in the marketplace as well. Allways Hire’s always been a great team – be it Hastings or Napier – to deal with. And you can’t beat the jet planes at the end of the day!”

NDP Fencing and Earthworks has grown considerably since the early days when Nigel started the business with a hand auger and some fencing tools. With its own fleet of machines and a strong workforce, Nigel is continuing to drive the business forward. “I can rely on them”

Hiring equipment is easier when you’re dealing with a team who are organised. A quick response and great customer service are two of the reasons Logan chooses Allways Hire for his Hawke’s Bay equipment hire.

“If I’m looking for equipment, all I have to do is call the team at Allways Hire and let them know what I’m looking for. I can rely on them to call me back within 5 minutes and let me know if they have it. They’re fairly priced and quick to respond to what I need. That’s why I recommend them to anyone looking to hire equipment in Hawke’s Bay.”

Equipment Hire for Construction and Roading Sites Loader Hire“I’ve never been let down”

Having equipment that’s available when he needs it – and a team who are willing to find a solution to last minute requests – ticks all the boxes for Trent. It’s not always possible to plan when you’re going to need to hire equipment. One of the reasons Trent chooses Allways Hire is because he knows he won’t be let down.

“Your customer service is second to none. The guys are always very helpful, very polite, very accommodating if we’re asking for equipment at short notice. We’ve got our own digger but if I’ve got 2 crews needing it, I know that Allways Hire have got enough equipment available that if I’m ringing up the night before – ideally we give you guys notice – but even at short notice even if it’s not at Napier you can get it for us from Hastings. It’s very handy that you’ve got enough equipment – that you’ve always got something available. I’ve never been let down with you guys being short of equipment – put it that way.”

“Always pretty prompt and helpful”

When you just need to be able to get hold of equipment and keep things moving, then it’s good to know you’re working with a team who are quick and efficient. Phil appreciates that the Allways Hire team – at both the Napier and Hastings branches – are quick, helpful and get his hires ready for him to pick up so he doesn’t need to waste time waiting around.

“Always pretty prompt and helpful. The guys on the ground in both stores – Napier and Hastings – are always pretty helpful, would make sure you get the right machine for the job, and give you the best possible one that they’ve got that’s ready to go in tidy condition.”

Allways Hire Offer A More Convenient Hire Experience Digger At Work“They’re reliable and fast”

Rohit knows that he can rely on Allways Hire to get him the equipment he needs. He just calls the team and they help. It sounds like a simple formula but it makes a big difference to Rohit. With the right equipment available when he needs it and delivered to site on the transporter: Rohit’s happy to recommend Allways Hire to anyone who asks.

“We just call them and they can transport it [where we need it]. They’re fast with transporting equipment to site and they’re overall nice people as well. They’re reliable and fast.”

“They’re second to none”

Customer service makes a big difference when you need a fast turnaround or you’re relying on someone to deliver. Reliable, new-looking equipment is more enjoyable to work with. That’s why Stu enjoys working with Allways Hire – because he knows that the Allways Hire business is 100 percent focused on doing the best job for him and his team.

“The quality of gear for the people driving it is a big one. The boys like nice reliable gear. And the customer service – I can’t fault Allways Hire: they’re second to none and they do their absolute best to try and help you out as much as they can. They bend over backwards for you – I appreciate their service and that’s why we keep coming back.

They’re so easy-going. We tell them what we need and 9 times out of 10 we’ve had a breakdown or something’s happened and we need equipment as soon as possible. They always seem to somehow juggle stuff to make it work – I can’t fault it. I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about them, it’s just bloody excellent customer service. You feel valued no matter how much you hire from them.”

Sometimes – in business – what makes the biggest difference is not what you have to do but what you don’t have to do. In the equipment hire business, that’s what being reliable is all about. Knowing that you can get the equipment you need, when you need it, and your hire company is going to make it as easy as possible, every step of the way.

We spoke to Jason and Emma Hynes of Jace Excavation Ltd in Hawke’s Bay, and asked them why Allways Hire is their no. 1 choice for equipment hire. They run an excavation business that started after Cyclone Gabrielle, when farmers in the area needed Jason’s expert help.

The business has gone from strength to strength since then, and the range of jobs that Jason takes care of for his customers means that he relies on the support of Allways Hire when he’s looking for specialised machinery. He tells us why he enjoys the hire experience and working with the Allways Hire team.

“Every time I go to hire something it’s easy. I don’t think I’ve had a major issue yet and I’ve hired oodles of gear from [Allways Hire]. So it’s just knowing that the gear’s going to be there – because you’ve got lots of it and it’s good – and it’s easy.”

The right support for a growing business

As a growing business it’s important that Jace Excavation can get the right support to take opportunities as they come along. Being reliable and having good communication is important for Jason and Emma so they can build a good reputation with their own customers. That includes being able to manage invoices quickly with no surprises.

“Allways Hire is perfect because I can invoice the night I leave the job – I know what I”m going to be charged by you guys – no surprises – so I don’t lose out and everybody gets what they’re owed – it’s easy. Just takes the stress away.”

Quick communication keeps the wheels rolling

Jason and Emma appreciate being able to grab what they need from the Napier branch or have it delivered, and the quick communication from the Allways Hire team.

“I haven’t had any issues with [communication]. I’ve emailed a few times and it’s been instant emails back. No waiting around for 2 days for customer support: it’s just instant. And you know what’s going on. Works well for the business.”

Reliability is the number one benefit of working with Allways Hire

When asked what’s the number one benefit of working with Allways Hire – Jason doesn’t hesitate to answer.

“Reliability 100% – same thing. The gear’s primo so there’s no surprises – always seems to be there when I need it and there’s never an issue. If it’s not in Napier you guys make it work and you shoot it over from Hastings and it works like that. Definitely saves downtime on the job.

[If equipment isn’t ready], it’s the downtime that I lose out on. So having you guys with the gear that’s right there ready to go, it’s just easy. It allows you to complete jobs without you having to invest in machinery that’s going to sit around for the rest of the year.

You guys are easy to jump in and grab it – or even transport it, you guys transporting the bigger machines out to us that’s handy as well. I’d have to have a bigger cost from another company to get that so it’s choice we can work it in. [you’re a] One stop shop.”

Your one stop equipment hire shop in Hawke’s Bay

Having an equipment hire company in Hawke’s Bay that offers a one stop shop for all your equipment hire needs makes a huge difference to businesses like Jace Excavation. When reliability, flexibility and communication are key – it’s much easier to run a business with a team like the Allways Hire team on your side.

If you would like to find out more about hiring equipment from Allways Hire, contact the team and let us know how we could help your business.

At Allways Hire we always strive on building a great partnership with our customers to help them grow their business and get their job done. We interviewed Kevin Manuel from Vinman Ld about his partnership with Allways Hire.

Kevin spends a lot of time “driving poles into the ground”. That’s because Kevin’s the owner of Vinman Ltd, a business that specialises in orchard development, vineyard development and kiwifruit development across Hawke’s Bay.

Kevin first started using Allways Hire when customers requested work that he didn’t have the equipment for.

“Clients started asking us to do jobs we didn’t have the equipment for. We started small, hiring the odd ripper here and there to where we are now: hiring a bunch of diggers.

A lot of what we do is driving posts into the ground – hard ground and soft ground. Some posts need to go 2 to 4 metres into the ground and in some areas of Hawke’s Bay that can be quite problematic. We mainly use plate compactors on Excavators but sometimes you need a little extra to drive them.”

Needing the little extra was where Allways Hire was able to help. Working in close partnership with Kevin, the team at Allways Hire was aware of how he was using the equipment and saw an opportunity to share something new.

The Fence Pro Pile Driver is a powerful force if you need to drive posts into the ground. With a 5 metre mast and a 500KG block it suits a wide range of projects. It works on 10-13 tonne Excavators and makes easy work of retaining wall posts, shelter belt posts or any other project that requires a combination of power and precision.

Want a hire partner who grows with your business?

From first digger to full civil fleet, our full Allways Hire equipment range scales with your workload. Hire what you need, when you need it.

  • Flexible terms for short and long hire
  • Account support for repeat customers
  • Master Machinery fleet available across New Zealand

Allways Hire recognised that the Fence Pro Pile Driver could make a real difference to Kevin’s business – especially where he needs to drive larger poles into the ground. A quick phone call introduced Kevin to the opportunity and he was keen to give the new piece of equipment a try.

“I said ‘Absolutely’. It took a bit of getting used to – working with something that heavy that high above your head. We used it to drive big shelter belt poles – about 8 metre poles. It took a bit of getting used to but since then we’ve used it for Kiwifruit deadmen as well.”

Being able to hire the right, well serviced equipment gives businesses the chance to take the next opportunity and grow. Kevin recognises that Allways Hire have set up their business to take care of his – and that’s why he works with them again and again.

“What I get here that stands out from everyone else is great service. There’s certainly been times where you’ve not necessarily had what I needed but you end up buying it anyway. That comes back to service, quality service going out of your way to get stuff to help me out.

I’d recommend Allways Hire to anyone, just purely because of the quality equipment and the great service. I guess from me it’s more thank you than anything else. I’m a client here and in return you guys have always been good to me.  It’s sort of a relationship that we’ve developed over the years and it’s something that I would like to keep going. It helps me out a lot and it helps my cashflow as well – I don’t have to buy everything myself.”

The Master Sweeper has been designed to be easy to operate, economical, and great for cleaning up in tight spaces. So it’s no wonder that the team at Regal Haulage are such big fans. They specialise in bulk cartage and storage in New Zealand. Predominantly based in the North Island, they have a lot of parts in motion across the country on a daily basis.

Regal Haulage needed a machine to keep their yard clean and deal with the day-to-day mess of trucks coming and going from their storage facility. We spoke to Hayden, the Workshop Manager, to find out how the Master Sweeper has been a great fit for their needs.

“The Master Sweeper was just right for us. We started by needing a sweeper for our stores at New Plymouth. Contamination can be a risk at stores, so it’s important to be able to keep them clean and tidy at all times.

When we were looking for a sweeper, the Master Sweeper stood out for us as the right solution. We wanted something smart, that wasn’t an attachment. We don’t have the right machine to put the brush onto the front of, so a small tractor sweeper is a great solution.

Allways Hire - Master Sweeper - Available to hire Napier and Hastings

The Master Sweeper can clean up indoors or outdoors – depending on your space and needs.

Keeping the stores clean and tidy is an important part of the job and the Master Sweeper is perfect to do that. The Master Sweeper performed so well for us after the first 6 months that we decided to get a second one.”

The Master Sweeper has been designed to deliver a complete package

Designed to clean, suppress dust, and keep the operator comfortable while being easy to use: the Master Sweeper really does offer a complete package. That’s just one of the reasons it has been a big hit at Regal Haulage. When the team based at the depot and workshop decided to get a second machine, they found out first hand how effective it was at keeping the yard clean.

“The tractor’s easy to manoeuvre and very effective. It definitely performs best [for us] in the dry but the Dust Defeater and built-in water tank are really handy for when you need to keep dust to a minimum.

Being able to use the Master Sweeper is a great way to deal with the stones and dirt that get dragged around by the trucks as they come in off the road. It falls off the tires and we just need it swept up and out of the way.

Our yard man loves to jump into the air conditioned cab and crank the music up and drive around. It makes it pretty comfortable for him to operate. He gets out and sweeps the yard twice a week and goes across the whole yard. The machine is even small enough to make it possible to get into the corners.”

The broom on the Master Sweeper has special hydraulics that minimise wear and deliver a more economical cleaning solution.

Delivering value for money with a more economical sweeping solution

The Master Sweeper isn’t just versatile, it’s cost effective too. With a brush fitted with hydraulics to reduce wear, the cost of brush replacement is dramatically reduced compared to the competition. That’s made a long-term lease of the Master Sweeper a cost-effective way to keep the Regal Haulage yards and stores clean.

“The Master Sweeper is perfect for keeping things tidy. We’re definitely benefiting from having them on a long term lease, and the support that comes with it. The team at Allways Hire have been quick to get us parts when we need them, and Jeremy is always available if we have any questions.”

Keep your work yard or sheds clean with a Master Sweeper

Allways Hire is the right hire partner for many businesses across Hawke’s Bay. That’s because the equipment they hire is exactly what those companies need. Whether they’re working on a short project or a bigger job, the kit they hire from Allways Hire provides them with reliable, well maintained equipment. That’s why they come back again and again.

Drainways is an example of one of those businesses. Family-owned and founded in 1976, they’ve gone from strength to strength and are now enjoying a period of rapid growth buoyed by the growth of the Hawke’s Bay region. That means Mark Currie, Managing Director at Drainways, needs a reliable source of equipment to keep the multiple projects he’s delivering moving forward.

“The Drainways business is concentrated around civil and commercial drainage. We’ve also worked on developments – retirement developments and subdivisions where we do all of the bulk excavation for the roading as well as the drainage and then the backfill, for the curbs, the asphalt and topsoil etc.

We’re growing quite rapidly. We’re very busy and have been for the last couple of years with hardly any lulls. And it’s looking like it’s going to be more so because the Council is pushing out lots of work with assets due for replacement and extra funding available from Central Government.

Jobs that are just for 3 months or 2 weeks or 6 months there’s no point in buying a $200,000-300,000 piece of kit when you don’t know when you’ll need to use it again. That’s when we use Allways Hire. Also we use their equipment for fill ins. We’ve got our own equipment but just to fill in gaps for those one off jobs or slightly bigger jobs when it’s not worth buying the kit for them.”

The team at Drainways appreciate the service and maintenance standards of Allways Hire. They also have some pieces of Allways Hire kit that have become an essential part of their business because they do the job so well. The Master Water Carts are one such item. Water is essential in the Drainways business for suppressing dust and compacting material. The Master Water Carts are perfect for the job.

“The Water Cart is an ongoing need for us now, especially with the summer months coming up and the need to keep the dust levels down. The Master Water Carts come with their own trucks or on their own trailers. You can rock up there and grab it and drive it away. That means we don’t need to worry about using our trucks where we could be using them to cart soil or pipes on site.

The Water Carts come with different attachments. There’s a general spray nozzle on the back that operates as you drive it around the site, and there’s a button so you can turn it on and off from the cab. Then there’s a pull out hose reel on the back just for hand watering to get into the tricky little spots that you can’t drive into.

We use the Water Carts for dust suppression and also for wetting the material we bring in so that it can compact properly. You have to use moisture to get the compaction rates up. The Water Cart goes around the site and is used to water in the tracks and the paths where everybody drives and walks so the dust doesn’t rise up. Then when that’s not needed it’s onto house platforms or building platforms and roads to get the compaction up.”

Does your business need mobile access to water? Find out more about the Master Water Carts and book your hire today.

As well as the Master Water Carts, Drainways also hire a wide range of other equipment from Allways Hire. And they’re not planning on changing that anytime soon. When they hire with Allways Hire, Mark knows they will always be happy.

“We hire from Allways Hire because they always have good up-to-date equipment to hire. You know that you have a piece of kit that’s going to go to work and work for you without having any breakdowns. And the customer service is great too. They go out of their way to make sure something works and if anything stops working they send someone out very quickly.”

If your business needs access to reliable equipment, Allways Hire can help. We’ve built our range of equipment by listening to the needs of our customers. We keep our stock current and well maintained, so that you can rely on your hire to get the job done without breaking down. Our Master Equipment range features special design enhancements that we’ve added so you can get the job done faster, more efficiently, and with better results.

Having a hire company that you can rely upon is important. Especially if you’re focused on delivering high quality results for your customers. Knowing you can get the machine you want and that it will do the job you need it to do makes it easier to meet expectations.

Reliability is just one of the reasons that Leigh and Vicky Austin, business partners at Diggers and More Ltd, choose and recommend Allways Hire. We spoke to them to find out what their experience has been of hiring with this Hawke’s Bay-based company.

Watch the video of our interview with Leigh & Vicky here:

“ [The equipment we use] varies from job to job. We try to keep our 14T excavator busy. We get other jobs…where Allways Hire is very handy. We hire a lot of [their] gear, it’s very good…rollers, compactors, different size excavators, a whole range of different things really, it just depends what the job requires at the time.”

With a varied job sheet, having a hire company that can adapt to their demands helps Diggers and More maintain their flexibility. Leigh and Vicky know they can take on any job and hire what’s needed to keep their customers happy.

“The reliability of machinery has been good for us. We have used some other companies that the machinery hasn’t been as up to scratch…It affects the outcome of your overall job really if you haven’t got equipment that’s doing what it needs to be doing or you’re being held up because it’s not working or it’s out of service or different bits and pieces like that. It’s not ideal. You guys always provide good equipment, it’s always working, we know you’ve always got the stuff that we need, which is awesome.”

Good customer service also makes a difference to Leigh and Vicky and that’s another of the reasons they haven’t looked back since choosing Allways Hire. From the little extras – like ice blocks on a hot Summer’s day – to the time that the team at Allways Hire put into making sure Leigh and Vicky are well looked after. The service they receive makes a real difference to their day and adds to the feeling of local businesses supporting each other.

“[The customer service is] spot on. We’ve had no issues at all really, throughout dealings with Allways Hire. The communication in general… [They are] just always friendly and cheerful and that’s always nice when you go to work in the morning and you go in to hire something and everyone’s all cheerful and happy. It just puts you in a good mood for the day, it’s good.”

The Allways Hire 1.5T Trench Roller is doing what it does best, compacting clay backfill behind the retaining wall.

“9 times out of 10 we hire out of the Napier branch…all round, all in all, awesome service and top people. Always a friendly smile and a variety of gear to source when we need it sourcing.”

From saving time with equipment you can rely on, to saving time with well-located branches in Napier and Hastings. Allways Hire put a lot of effort into creating a hire experience that helps businesses get on with the job at hand. For Leigh and Vicky, that includes the benefit of hire ready equipment and a quick turnaround when picking up a hire.

“[Having equipment ready when we need it] is most important, you know. When we need machines; we need machines. Especially in this industry, and with the weather as well on top of that. If you don’t have the machines and the tools to do the job, when you need them, it can hold the whole job up. That’s another asset to Allways Hire. When we need something it’s always available, it’s normally always pretty new and shiny as well.”

When asked whether they would recommend Allways Hire to other Hawke’s Bay businesses: Leigh and Vicky don’t hesitate. The benefits they enjoy working with the Allways Hire team are clear from their answer:

“All in all, good machines, good communication, if you ever have any issues you know they’re there to help you out and sort it out: highly recommended…Cheers for always being awesome and supporting our business as we support yours. Here’s to another round. Support local!”

Supporting the recovery effort with Groundfix

As a main contractor for KiwiRail, the Groundfix team has been extremely busy since Cyclone Gabrielle. They’re focused on recovery earthworks that include fixing and clearing culverts that got blocked or filled with silt by the Cyclone. They also have more future work planned to add more culverts, along with drilling and earthworks.

Cleaning culverts with the Master 2000L Water Cart

We asked Mathieu to talk us through his experience of working with the Master 2000L Water Cart. It’s been a vital tool in the clean up work and, thanks to some adaptations, has given the Groundfix team access to water wherever they need it.

“We had many culverts to clean, there were concrete culverts and PEHD culverts. Different sizes from 300mm up to 600mm. In length between 10m and 6/7m. Fully blocked with silt or a mix with ballast and top soil and rocks as well – all clogged up together.”

The combination of silt and other materials formed a solid block inside the culverts that was impossible to clear by hand. The material was too hard and the culverts were too long.

Mathieu is photographed clearing out a 600mm wide culvert under a railway line, using the jetter nozzle that comes with the Master 2000L Water Cart.

Mathieu’s team knew they would need to soften the material then blast/jet/or wash it out of the culverts. Mathieu explains how the Master Water Cart proved to be the perfect solution: combining the portable water with the tools needed to use it on one handy trailer.

“The solution was to get to it, to clean it with a water blaster or water jet. Because basically we just couldn’t reach by hand because the length [of the culvert] was too long…we had to soften all the ground.

We had to use your solution which was a water tank and a water blaster and a water jet and a lance as well, the water lance, all added up together on the same trailer.”

Smart solutions to get water into difficult places

How to clear the culvert was one challenge, but once the Master Water Cart was identified as the solution; Mathieu’s next challenge was how to get it in place.

The Master 2000L Water Cart is easy to transport, which is essential when working in remote locations in rural Hawke’s Bay like those pictured here.

The Master Water Cart is easy to tow by ute, digger or truck but in this instance the only access was via rail. Always Hire came up with a solution which Mathieu explains:

“The site as well that’s a remote site, the only access we have to get to site is through the rail, which is very limited for us to drive a ute or to access with a big digger or with any other plant. So we were limited by that.

The solution was provided by you [Allways Hire] was to provide 5T diggers with a tow ball mounted on the blade and we had, like, a [Water] Trailer on that tow bar so that we can actually tow the trailer with the digger and so we will be able to reach the site that way…

Allways Hire made it possible to get the Master 2000L Water Cart to site by adding a tow ball to the 5T Yanmar Digger.

And with that [Water] Trailer there was the perfect deal basically. So we reached the site, we cleaned up the culvert. Once the main tank was empty, we basically just lift the trailer up, you just rotate it 180 degrees, and track it out all the way with the arm of the digger.

Once you’re out of the site, you collect more water, come back to the site. Tow the trailer back in, get back to site, and finish cleaning up the culverts. Things turned out working very well. You saved my day many times.”

A solid recommendation for the Master 2000L Water Cart

Mathieu definitely recommends the Master Water Cart to anyone looking for portable water and the tools to get great use from it. So we asked him to share what he likes best about this versatile piece of kit.

“100% [I recommend this] because it’s a nice set up, it does work well, it’s very reliable. You can access [your work] site with it easily, you can tow it with a ute or whatever you want. And the way it’s been set up, it’s just nice – you’ve got a long reach with the hoses as well which is clearly good. That’s the tools – that’s the gear that you want to have on site.”

When you hire the Master 2000L Water Cart it comes with long reach hoses for water jetting, water blasting, wash down of machinery and more.

Great solutions, good listeners and help when you need it: recommending Allways Hire

Mathieu’s been an Allways Hire customer since early 2023. His time is important and he needs an equipment hire company that can be flexible to his needs to help him maximise productivity. We asked him to sum up what sets Allways Hire apart from the competition.

“I would definitely recommend to anyone to work with Allways Hire. The reasons are…as contractors, when you need something you need it now and you guys are able to answer really promptly. If you don’t have your gear here in Napier you can get it from Hastings. You work closely from different branches to help us to get the gear sorted on site. Whatever we’re looking for you provided it.

You even provided more than is expected – with that trailer for example with the system mounted on it – I wasn’t knowing that existed but you did provide it for us.

So, you’re able to find the solution, to listen to what we want, to help us, you’re even able to create new gear if we need to. And you guys are just awesome, the service is awesome…there’s just no problem…”

Recommending the 6000L Master Water Cart

Francois van Rensburg knows the importance of a water cart on the job. His role as Site Supervisor at Groundfix means he’s frequently managing dusty conditions on the road. With a project timeframe to meet and a budget to manage, he can’t let dust get in the way of getting a job done. So he hires a Master Water Cart from Allways Hire.

We asked him to tell us why he chooses the Master Water Cart.

“Six weeks ago, KiwiRail insisted every contractor had to have a water cart for dust suppression in the area where they work. Landowners started complaining about all the dust on the road with the trucks working. The 6000L Water Cart did the job really well for us.

The 6000L Master Water Cart is an efficient way to suppress dust over large areas.

If you have a Water Cart then you can eliminate the dust issue completely. That means it’s healthier and safer to work. I use the 6000L [Water Cart] for dust suppression and it works perfectly. It’s simple to operate – make sure the tank is full, open up the valve, start up the motor and go.

[When you’re working remotely] the biggest challenge is to find a refill point. [The Water Cart] being a mobile unit is key to this. The 2000L [water cart] on a trailer is good, the 4000L [water cart] is a good back-up system, but the 6000L [water cart] and bigger is the best system for us.”

What you need to know about Master Water Carts

If you’re unfamiliar with Master Water Carts; you might not know the features and benefits that set them apart from other equipment. The team at Allways Hire took some time to answer some frequently asked questions below.

What size of Master Water Carts are available to hire from Allways Hire?

Master Water Carts are currently available to hire with four sizes of water tank:

1000L Master Water Cart
2000L Master Water Cart
4000L Master Water Cart
6000L Master Water Cart

The 2000L Master Water Cart covers a large area with its special dust suppression nozzle.

Do Water Carts come pre-filled with water?

Yes – Master Water Carts can come pre-filled with (non drinking) water. Just let the team know you need them to be filled before you pick them up or have them delivered from the Allways Hire Napier or Hastings branches.

How do you transport the Master Water Carts?

  • The 1000L Master Water Cart is fixed to a trailer
  • The 2000L Master Water Cart comes on a trailer or it can be transported on the back of a light class 1 truck
  • The 4000L and 6000L Master Water Carts come on skid frames. The 4000L Master Water Cart can be transported on the back of a 5T+ (payload) truck. The 6000L Master Water Cart can be transported on the back of an 8T+ (payload) truck.

What equipment comes with the Master Water Carts when you hire them from Allways Hire?

The 1000L and 2000L Master Water Carts are a popular choice for water blasting and drain cleaning. These sizes come with a water blaster attachment.

All Master Water Carts come with an approximately 30 metre long hose with adjustable nozzle. A single flood jet nozzle (dust suppression nozzle) can spray water up to 5m wide in each swath/pass – depending on height from the ground.

When mounted on a truck, the 6000L Master Water Cart can cover a wide area with its single flood jet nozzle (dust suppression nozzle).

Master Water Carts also can come with remote water controls that allow you to turn the water on and off from within your truck cab. These are powered off the lighter power point in the cabin with either 12 or 24 volts capacity.

Can I put the Master Water Cart on the back of my truck? Or do I have to hire the truck from Allways Hire as well?

The 1000L Master Water Cart comes on its own trailer. Other Master Water Carts come on a skid frame that can be loaded onto your truck or you can hire a truck from Allways Hire.

The size of truck you need varies depending on the size/capacity of the water tanks. Class 1 for the 2000 litre unit, Class 2 for the 4000 and 6000 litre units.

How and where do I refill the water carts once they are empty?

You can refill Master Water Carts from a tap, a stream, or a water toby at a council-permitted site. All Master Water Carts have an anti-contamination system fitted so water cannot flow back into the water source.

If filling the Master Water Cart from streams using a water pump, ensure the water is filtered to keep stones or debris coming into the tank.

The Master Water Cart comes with a large diameter filling hose and anti-contamination system (highlighted above) to make it easier to refill the tanks on the job.

What are the main challenges encountered when using Master Water Carts for dust suppression?

One of the main challenges when using water carts for dust suppression is getting access to enough water. Water capacity can be challenging in very hot weather when dust increases. Bigger water tanks and proximity to water supply will help you to reduce downtime for refills.

All Master Water Carts come with large diameter filling hoses and – used in conjunction with a high flow pump – this can speed the filling time.

Master Water Carts have been designed to be more efficient in their use of water than other Water Carts. Having one dust suppression nozzle increases the pressure and ensures a better spread of water per tank load (multiple nozzles decrease the water pressure and can make it more water intensive to cover the same area).

How are Master Water Carts powered?

Master Water Carts are powered with a petrol engine. There is also the option of remote control activation of the water spray from the driver’s cab. These are powered off the lighter power point in the cabin with either 12 or 24 volts capacity.

Like it has for many businesses, Cyclone Gabrielle has shifted the focus for Digabit. Where Braden Jones and his team were previously hired for foundations, plumbing, drain-laying and landscape gardening; they’re now helping with the recovery and rebuilding efforts across the Hawke’s Bay region.

Allways Hire works in partnership with customers like Digabit, to go above and beyond in service and support. We asked Braden Jones and Mike Shaw from Digabit, how has Allways Hire helped them to adjust to the changing nature of their business?

Flexibility to take on new work

Going from delivering one type of job to another is easy if you’ve got the right skills already. What can be more challenging is getting hold of the right, reliable equipment.

Working with a hire company like Allways Hire gives businesses like Digabit the flexibility to say yes to jobs first, and hire the equipment they need to deliver them second. It’s a great position to be in when new opportunities come up.

Aerial view of the Digabit team repairing a rural road after a slip came across it.

Mike Shaw describes how Allways Hire has supported Digabit’s business growth:

“As a small company I guess you can’t buy everything because it’s got to add some value to your business. We just don’t know what we’re going to need for any particular job. The key to that is having a partner that can deliver the hire equipment that we need: quickly and efficiently and the equipment isn’t going to break down on us.

Every time Braden’s needed something I’ve been told to go and pick it up. It’s there when we need it, you guys are great at getting it on the truck, it’s always in good nick – well serviced – so yeah, no complaints.”

Equipment is available when it’s needed

When a natural disaster like Cyclone Gabrielle hits, certain machines are in very high demand. One of the ways that Allways Hire was able to support the recovery work was by working behind the scenes to rapidly increase the size of their fleet. For businesses like Digabit, that translated into knowing that the right equipment was available for their next piece of work.

The Digabit team are hard at work repairing and rebuilding roads after Cyclone Gabrielle.

Braden Jones knows he can rely on Allways Hire to have the machine he needs:

“Always Hire have very reliable gear, they have similar machines to what we use, so it’s pretty good to be able to grab machines that we bring out on the site, there’s no issues with it, we use it and we bring it back.

The massive range that you guys carry is pretty awesome and if we need something you guys normally have it.”

Mike Shaw has great faith in the team at Allways Hire and their ability to get what Digabit needs:

“Knowing that the communication is solid and that they’ve got the equipment we need when we need it. And if they haven’t got it they’ll source it – and that’s been pretty important. Again, building those partnerships is critical.“

A focus on convenience

With a team who are focused on making the hire experience easy, Braden and Mike know they’re always going to get great service from Allways Hire. But convenience doesn’t only come from having the right support team.

Braden’s CAT is always hard at work alongside the Allways Hire machines.

In June 2023, Allways Hire opened a branch in Napier to make it easier for customers on that side of Hawke’s Bay to access equipment. Now businesses like Digabit can get to their equipment without getting held up on the Napier-Hastings expressway.

Braden appreciates the convenience of picking up hires from Napier rather than Hastings:

“The Napier branch is awesome: that they’ve brought that into the scheme of things. It was always – with the traffic after the cyclone – an hour over to Hastings which was quite painful. Now that the Napier branch is there it’s so quick to whip in and grab what we need and carry on with the day.”
