Recommending the 6000L Master Water Cart

Francois van Rensburg knows the importance of a water cart on the job. His role as Site Supervisor at Groundfix means he’s frequently managing dusty conditions on the road. With a project timeframe to meet and a budget to manage, he can’t let dust get in the way of getting a job done. So he hires a Master Water Cart from Allways Hire.

We asked him to tell us why he chooses the Master Water Cart.

“Six weeks ago, KiwiRail insisted every contractor had to have a water cart for dust suppression in the area where they work. Landowners started complaining about all the dust on the road with the trucks working. The 6000L Water Cart did the job really well for us.

The 6000L Master Water Cart is an efficient way to suppress dust over large areas.

If you have a Water Cart then you can eliminate the dust issue completely. That means it’s healthier and safer to work. I use the 6000L [Water Cart] for dust suppression and it works perfectly. It’s simple to operate – make sure the tank is full, open up the valve, start up the motor and go.

[When you’re working remotely] the biggest challenge is to find a refill point. [The Water Cart] being a mobile unit is key to this. The 2000L [water cart] on a trailer is good, the 4000L [water cart] is a good back-up system, but the 6000L [water cart] and bigger is the best system for us.”

What you need to know about Master Water Carts

If you’re unfamiliar with Master Water Carts; you might not know the features and benefits that set them apart from other equipment. The team at Allways Hire took some time to answer some frequently asked questions below.

What size of Master Water Carts are available to hire from Allways Hire?

Master Water Carts are currently available to hire with four sizes of water tank:

1000L Master Water Cart
2000L Master Water Cart
4000L Master Water Cart
6000L Master Water Cart

The 2000L Master Water Cart covers a large area with its special dust suppression nozzle.

Do Water Carts come pre-filled with water?

Yes – Master Water Carts can come pre-filled with (non drinking) water. Just let the team know you need them to be filled before you pick them up or have them delivered from the Allways Hire Napier or Hastings branches.

How do you transport the Master Water Carts?

  • The 1000L Master Water Cart is fixed to a trailer
  • The 2000L Master Water Cart comes on a trailer or it can be transported on the back of a light class 1 truck
  • The 4000L and 6000L Master Water Carts come on skid frames. The 4000L Master Water Cart can be transported on the back of a 5T+ (payload) truck. The 6000L Master Water Cart can be transported on the back of an 8T+ (payload) truck.

What equipment comes with the Master Water Carts when you hire them from Allways Hire?

The 1000L and 2000L Master Water Carts are a popular choice for water blasting and drain cleaning. These sizes come with a water blaster attachment.

All Master Water Carts come with an approximately 30 metre long hose with adjustable nozzle. A single flood jet nozzle (dust suppression nozzle) can spray water up to 5m wide in each swath/pass – depending on height from the ground.

When mounted on a truck, the 6000L Master Water Cart can cover a wide area with its single flood jet nozzle (dust suppression nozzle).

Master Water Carts also can come with remote water controls that allow you to turn the water on and off from within your truck cab. These are powered off the lighter power point in the cabin with either 12 or 24 volts capacity.

Can I put the Master Water Cart on the back of my truck? Or do I have to hire the truck from Allways Hire as well?

The 1000L Master Water Cart comes on its own trailer. Other Master Water Carts come on a skid frame that can be loaded onto your truck or you can hire a truck from Allways Hire.

The size of truck you need varies depending on the size/capacity of the water tanks. Class 1 for the 2000 litre unit, Class 2 for the 4000 and 6000 litre units.

4000L Master Water Cart fitted to a 5T tipper truck (Class 2).

How and where do I refill the water carts once they are empty?

You can refill Master Water Carts from a tap, a stream, or a water toby at a council-permitted site. All Master Water Carts have an anti-contamination system fitted so water cannot flow back into the water source.

If filling the Master Water Cart from streams using a water pump, ensure the water is filtered to keep stones or debris coming into the tank.

The Master Water Cart comes with a large diameter filling hose and anti-contamination system (highlighted above) to make it easier to refill the tanks on the job.

What are the main challenges encountered when using Master Water Carts for dust suppression?

One of the main challenges when using water carts for dust suppression is getting access to enough water. Water capacity can be challenging in very hot weather when dust increases. Bigger water tanks and proximity to water supply will help you to reduce downtime for refills.

All Master Water Carts come with large diameter filling hoses and – used in conjunction with a high flow pump – this can speed the filling time.

Master Water Carts have been designed to be more efficient in their use of water than other Water Carts. Having one dust suppression nozzle increases the pressure and ensures a better spread of water per tank load (multiple nozzles decrease the water pressure and can make it more water intensive to cover the same area).

How are Master Water Carts powered?

Master Water Carts are powered with a petrol engine. There is also the option of remote control activation of the water spray from the driver’s cab. These are powered off the lighter power point in the cabin with either 12 or 24 volts capacity.

Are you ready to hire a Master Water Cart?

Master Water Carts are available for short term hire in Hawke’s Bay and can be collected from the Allways Hire Napier or Hastings branches or delivered to your worksite.

Long-term hire/lease/purchase is available outside the Hawke’s Bay region. If your business needs to suppress dust or have remote access to water, contact our team today and organise your hire or purchase.
