If you plan to hire a water blaster we’ve taken a close look at some of the regular questions we get asked. From understanding what jobs a water blaster can do to exploring how you choose the right water blaster for your job. Read on to find out more about hiring a water blaster.

What is a water blaster?

A water blaster does exactly what its name suggests – it blasts water. You can think of it like a hose that has a lot of power behind it to make the water come out much faster. The speed and pressure of the water makes it a powerful tool for cleaning, removing moss and mould, washing down surfaces, and preparing surfaces for treatment.

What jobs is a water blaster good for?

A water blaster is a great tool for a wide range of cleaning and preparation tasks. It’s commonly used by painters to prepare exterior surfaces such as windows, walls and roofs before preparing for paint applications.

Water blasters are a high-powered solution for cleaning guttering, soffits, roofs and walls, driveways and paths. A water blaster can remove moss, mould and dirt and help you prepare a building for handover to clients. It can protect a building from the damaging impact of the outdoor environment.

Water blasters are also great tools for washing down your yard and keeping your vehicles clean. That makes them a useful piece of equipment if you have branded vehicles and you don’t want mud from the latest job to get in the way of good advertising.

How do I choose the right water blaster?

Choosing the right water blaster for your job is essential if you want to get value for money from your hire. The two main criteria you need to consider are how the water blaster is powered and how hard it pushes the water out of the hose.

Start by understanding if you’re going to have access to a power supply. If you’re working on a job without a power supply you will need to hire a petrol-powered water blaster. If you have access to power you can choose between electric or petrol.

Do you have access to a water supply? A water blaster is great if you have access to water, but if you’re working in a rural location or without access to a water supply, you may want to hire a water cart with a built-in water blaster. Water carts with built-in water blasters give you access to the water you need at the same time as giving you the right tool to get the job done.

The area you want to clean and what you need to clean off are also important considerations. Larger areas may justify hiring a water blaster that comes on a trailer as that will make it easier to move about. There are a wide range of chemicals available that can help you make a success of most cleaning jobs where water isn’t enough. For areas where you’re dealing with stubborn grease and oil it’s worth considering a hot water blaster.

What water pressure do you need from your water blaster?

Getting the right water blaster means getting a water blaster that’s strong enough for the job in hand but not so strong that it’s going to cause damage. That’s why for light cleaning jobs you only need a water blaster that’s up to 1700 PSI while for heavy duty jobs it’s worth looking for a water blaster with an output of 2800 PSI +.

Remember for any job you’re working on that water can be highly damaging if it gets where you don’t want it to be.

Get the right water blaster for the area you’re working in

As well as the logistics of the job you’ve got to do, another consideration is any restrictions you may be operating under in the area where you’re working. Choosing the right water blaster may require a stronger output so you can get the job done without chemicals, or an electric water blaster so you keep the noise to a minimum and don’t disturb the neighbours. These are all factors you need to consider when choosing the right water blasting equipment.
