Ground-breaking machine launches in Hawke’s Bay

The best in its class: the new Master Hydro Vacuum Excavator has taken existing technology and fine-tuned it for an easier, more adaptable digging experience. And now it’s available to hire in Hawke’s Bay.

There’s a lot to consider when excavating a hole. There’s the different soil structures; the challenge of access to a site that’s not always as spacious as you would like; and then there’s that perpetual risk of hitting unexpected utilities. Let’s face it, not every homeowner knows where their water pipes and power cables are buried.

That’s why the new Hydro Vacuum Excavator from Master Equipment is a game changer. With its compact design and long vacuum hose it can work in tight spaces. It uses high pressure water to move dirt, turn it into a slurry and then suck it up with the vacuum hose into its tank: quickly excavating a hole of the size and depth that’s needed. What’s more, if it hits any obstacles – pipes, cables, etc. – the water just works around them without damage or danger.

Stu Bulled from Bulled Contractors has been one of the first to try the Master Hydro Vacuum Excavator. He’s been blown away by the difference it can make to complex digging jobs.

“We had pile holes to suck out and it was all rocks and stones. Because it was all shingle it was going to cave in. We couldn’t use a digger because the hole would be too big, we couldn’t use an auger because of the stones. We were able to use the Master Vacuum Excavator to suck out the holes we wanted – 450 round and 2m deep – it worked really well.”

Stu Bulled’s team have been using the Master Hydro Vacuum Excavator to dig pile holes in shingle. Accuracy and precision make it possible to dig deep holes without undermining the rest of the build site.

Master Equipment has a reputation for taking machines and using design innovation to make them easier and smarter for the end user. The Master Hydro Vacuum Excavator has been no exception to this. David Smith, Head of Research and Design for Master Equipment, talked through the design process that’s led to today.

“With Master Equipment we like to work with our customers to innovate and achieve design excellence. We’ve been working since March 2021 to test and evolve the design of the Hydro Vacuum Excavator.

Our focus is on getting the best results and that’s where we are today. We’ve made many modifications since our original design. Now we’re really pleased with the feedback we’re getting from customers who are using the Master Hydro Vacuum Excavator.”

The focus of the design process has been on delivering multiple benefits from the Master Vacuum Excavator. These include:

  1. Making it easy to use – any complexity of operation has been removed. Now it’s simple enough for anyone to learn how to operate the Master Vacuum Excavator quickly
  2. Making it easy to move – the Master Vacuum Excavator can easily be transferred from one truck to another
  3. Delivering consistent high performance and great results
  4. Being easy to maintain and service to a high standard.

The Master Vacuum Excavator is available to hire on a truck. You will need your own Transport Service Licence and Class 2 Drivers Licence to drive it on the road. The Master Vacuum Excavator features:

  • A full hydro vacuum system that’s adaptable to any situation, including a large 2m3 vacuum storage tank and long vacuum hose on a boom that can swing 270o by remote control
  • Simple controls so it can be operated by one person and can be fully operated by remote control
  • A built-in water blaster with its own water tank – to cut into the ground to loosen the material for it to be sucked away
  • 1x 2m extension hose with a stand pipe for those hard to reach places.

Jeremy Smith, Business Development Manager at Allways Hire, has been impressed by the speed that customers have signed up to hire the new Hydro Vacuum Excavator.

“Since it’s been available for hire we’ve had loads of enquiries. It’s just easier to use than other models on the market, and it eliminates a lot of the issues that our customers have to deal with when they’re excavating with diggers.

We support lots of utility companies and businesses who need to excavate a small area with minimum impact. That’s where the Hydro Vacuum Excavator excels. It’s in and out – no damage and no fuss. Perfect for utility repairs or excavating for piles, fences or retaining walls.”

If Stu Bulled’s feedback as a customer is anything to go by, the Master Hydro Excavator is going to be in high demand.

“Without a doubt I’ll use it again – I wish I’d known about it sooner. For places where we can’t get the diggers or if there’s heaps of cables and stuff like that – I’d certainly grab that and use it.

I tell everyone all the time to give it a go. If they get stuck, I say to grab it. It’s a really good machine. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again.”
